Heat-o-Cool - A concept of electronic device which acts as Water cooler as well as water heater!

Extract

This abstract can be used for college project purposes and new invention concepts for education purpose and can be implemented practically.

}While traveling long distances we do not have an option of heating our beverages, say coffee, tea, milk etc & cooling fruit juices, soda, carbonated drinks, etc.
}So what should we do if our coffee has gone cold or if our mineral water has become boiling hot due to the blistering heat?
}Hence we observe that there is no mechanism where in we can heat or cool our liquid beverages. Here is where the HEAT-O-COOL comes into picture.

Present Appliances

}Of course we have Appliances like microwaves, heaters for heating

and other appliances like refrigerators for cooling. Unfortunately,

these too have some shortcomings. Let us see what they can be-

}They are very large and bulky.
}These cannot be put to use efficiently for small scale purposes, like for heating a glass of coffee or cooling a cup of lemon juice.
}They are not convenient to carry from one place to another.
}They are expensive and are used mainly for large scale heating or cooling.
Appliance Looking for
}So hence we are talking of some kind of a temperature conditioning applianc which conveniently satisfies the following features
}It should be small and light.
}Its use should be for small scale purposes especially while traveling like heating or cooling a single cup of coffee or a glass of lemonade.
}It should be convenient to carry from one place to another.
}It should be less expensive and cost effective.

Basic Construction

}It contains two vertical planes, each standing 25cm tall intersecting along a line, forming an open book structure intersecting at straight line.
}The main feature of this appliance is its inbuilt heating and cooling mechanisms. Two sector planes with radii measuring 7cm are fitted at the top and the base of the structure. Each sector plate has a thickness of 2cm.
}A container of radii of 5cm and 15cm in length can be fitted on the bottom or the top sector plate in the grooves provided on the plates.
}The top sector plate takes care of the cooling action and the base plate takes care heating action.

Cooling Mechanism

}The top sector plate constitutes the cooler. It has an inbuilt compressor, exchange pipes and an expansion valve. The refrigerant gas here is Freon. The detailed analysis is as follows:
}The compressor compresses the Freon gas. The compressed Freon heats up as its pressurized.
}The coils on the rear end of the sector lets the hot Freon dissipate is heat. The Freon gas condenses into Freon liquid at high pressure.
}the high pressure Freon flows through the expansion valve.(you can think of the expansion valve as a small hole. On one side of the hole is high pressure Freon liquid. On the other side of he liquid is a low pressured area, because the compressor is sucking gas out of that side.
}the liquid Freon immediately boils and vaporizes, its temperature dropping to -29 degrees Celsius. This makes the inside of our container cold.
}the cold Freon gas is sucked up by the compressor and the
cycle repeats.

Heating Mechanism

}The base sector plate of the appliance constitutes the
heating element.
}First, the container containing the liquid to be heated is fixed on the grooves of the base sector.
} The base sector of 2cm thickness contains a spiral shaped aluminum heating coil embedded into it.
}As the appliance is run on a rechargeable battery, all that is to be done is switching on the appliance so that the container having the beverage is heated up to a desired range.

Features

}Inbuilt heating and cooling mechanisms.
}Rechargeable battery.
}An additional cup of 5cm diameter and a length of 15cm.
}An electronic indicator strip indicating the temperature of the liquid at any given point of operation.
}An electronic timer to set the time for cooling or heating.
}The most fascinating feature of the heat-o-cool is that when not in use, it can be compressed by folding inwards which is synonymous to closing a book. The heating coil and cooling coils are made up of flexible, conducting, non radiating rubber, which is being developed by Nano sonic Inc.(christianburg, V.A)

Advantages

}The T.C serves as wonderful device or rather a ‘must have’ for tourists or frequent travelers.
}It would prove to be an indispensable asset to health patients suffering from chronic diseases like asthma, bronchitis, isnophelia etc, who thrive on hot or warm drinking water and beverages.
}Portable and light weight.
